Anesthetic

Anesthetics are the first type of medication that is regularly used for external hemorrhoids. The ingredients in the anesthetics usually include the benzocaine, benzyl alcohol, dibucaine, cyclonine, lidocaine, pramoxine, and tetracaine. If hemorrhoids are irritating you then you can apply this, which is usually found as a cream in the irritated area.

When you apply this particular cream, it will cause a response in the nerve endings that are reacting to the hemorrhoids. This blocks the burning, itching and pain.

Keratolytics

The second type of medication that is commonly used for external hemorrhoids are keratolytics. The ingredients that usually found in this type of medication are aluminum chlorhydroxy allantoinate and resorcinol. Pain and itching will be relieved when it is applied to the area where the hemorrhoids are causing irritation. By acting as a healing ingredient, it does this by moving into the tissue area that is being irritated.

Antipruritic

Whatever the other treatment options you try, however, the FDA does not approve these. Antipruritic is the first one. These will respond to the nerves that are in the area and cause the senses that are causing the irritations to be relieved. The most commonly used antipruritics are Menthol, juniper tar and camphor. Another possibility is hydrocortisone. This will relieve the swelling that is part of the irritation of Hemorrhoids. Only when the doctor approves this treatment first, then only this can be used.

Gels, ointments or creams

To apply the dosage, the medications that are used with external hemorrhoids also come in a variety of ways. These medications usually find the form of gels, ointments or creams and can be applied externally.
